Trying to track down which bridge and road projects in York County could be funded through state transportation proposals has been anything but easy.
That’s because, as the Associated Press reported today, the information is only available to legislators through a password-protected website.
Spokespersons for the state Department of Transportation and Gov. Tom Corbett said last week that a list of projects will not be released until it is finalized. Some projects might not go forward — it all depends on how much money is approved for
So Ed Mahon and I have been contacting state senators who represent York County to find out which projects could go forward. We do not have a full list, but the short list we have includes the widening of Interstate 83 between the North George Street and Mount Rose Avenue interchanges.
State Senator Robert Teplitz, D-Susquehanna Township, shared some of the projects in York County that would be funded through the transportation proposals.
He said last week that he doesn’t understand why the state is not sharing this information. He thinks if it was made available, it would probably generate public support for making this happen.
PennDOT has argued that the public deserves the final list — not one that involves maybes, according to the Associated Press.
So, what do you think should happen here? Do you want to see the list of potential projects — even if it has to change later, depending on how much money legislators approve? Or would you rather wait for the final list of projects that will go forward?
